Response to Cyclone Gabrielle
A violent tropical cyclone devastated the North Island of New Zealand on February 2023. Cyclone Gabrielle is the costliest tropical cyclone to ever hit the Southern Hemisphere, with total damages estimated to be over NZ$13.5 billion.

Papakura Military Camp is the base for the 1st New Zealand Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment and support services. The camp provides world-class facilities for our Special Operations personnel to train to protect New Zealand and its interests.

NZDF has a rich and complex history that spans decades. There are three museums across Aotearoa New Zealand that showcase and support our unique military history. Each museum is dedicated to our three Services: the Royal New Zealand Navy, the New Zealand Army, and the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
