What is a Service Leaver?
Personnel who leave the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) enter the civilian workforce with a range of skills and values that will remain with them for life. Whatever their service background, service leavers are valuable additions to the civilian workforce.
Employers find that they have a drive towards success and bring numerous skills and experience to the workplace.
DESC aims to engage with employers of service leavers to ensure that both employer and employee are made stronger from the relationship. We also work with employers to support service leavers and champion their value in the workforce.
Although their time in uniform has finished, the support the wider defence community provides has not. Our service leaver personnel continue to be supported by the NZDF, DESC, Veterans' Affairs New Zealand, and various affiliated organisations.
